Rheumatology is a specialty in medicine that identifies and treats musculoskeletal disease and systemic auto-immune disorders. These disorders can affect your joints, muscles, and bones causing pain, stiffness, and deformity. When you have an auto-immune condition, your immune system sends inflammation to areas of the body when it is not needed causing damage. These diseases can also affect the eyes, skin, nervous system and internal organs.

What should I expect from my rheumatology visit?
Rheumatic diseases are sometimes complicated in nature and difficult to diagnose. It is important for the doctor to get a complete medical history and do a physical exam to look for signs and symptoms of inflammation throughout your entire body. A complete family history is very important as well. The doctor will review the results of any tests you have already had and may order additional testing. All of these results will be reviewed together to determine what is causing your symptoms. Our Kinisi Rheumatology staff will work with you and other specialties to create a care plan that is customized for you.
